Keep a full recurring cycle at the monthly base
For a saved cycle starting on day 3, 3 October–2 November 2026 is one complete monthly cycle. With no adjustments, the base is HK$6,000. You need neither a split between October and November nor daily records. The table separates full cycles from a custom period.
| Case | Wage period | Input | Base pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recurring day 3 | 3 October–2 November 2026 | Monthly salary HK$6,000 | HK$6,000 |
| Saved profile day 31 · January | 31 January–27 February 2027 | Monthly salary HK$6,000 | HK$6,000 |
| Saved profile day 31 · February | 28 February–30 March 2027 | Monthly salary HK$6,000 | HK$6,000 |
| Custom shorter period | 10–17 November 2026 | Entered period salary HK$1,200 | HK$1,200 |
A saved day 31 stays day 31 after February
In Helpers & contracts, set Monthly cycle starts on to 31. In Payroll, select January or February 2027. The saved anchor uses February’s last date, then returns to the 31st in March. Each period ends the day before the next start.
These examples use a saved profile. On the public calculator, entering 28 February alone starts a day-28 cycle, without remembering an earlier day-31 arrangement.
Enter the base for a genuinely shorter period
Suppose a first or final period covers 10–17 November with an applicable salary amount of HK$1,200. Select Partial or custom period, enter both dates and enter HK$1,200 as Salary for this period. That amount is used directly, without dividing HK$6,000 by 30.
Free food adds no cash food amount. For a cash food allowance, enter this period’s amount separately. A workspace draft can be saved while those amounts are missing.
Change this period without changing the profile
For the full 3 October–2 November cycle, two entered rest-day-work days at a saved HK$200 rate add HK$400: HK$6,000 + 2 × HK$200 = HK$6,400. Change this period’s rate to HK$300 and the result becomes HK$6,600. A new period still starts with the saved HK$200 default.
Edit the profile when you intend to change a saved default. For a one-period salary or rate change, edit the calculator instead. Enter only the counts you need; paid-leave counts retain base pay and do not update the dated leave ledger.
Keep one-off allowances separate
General Allowance and Compensation defaults are flat amounts per event. A saved HK$100 allowance prefills an event; you may change it to HK$150. It does not automatically increase every monthly base.
Use optional Detailed calendar mode for that event, or enter the applicable total under Other agreed additional pay in Quick. Quick uses entered totals rather than importing dated events. Include the amount once; do not copy it next month unless it applies again. Notes and uploads are optional.
Keep the period end and payment date distinct
Labour Department guidance says wages become due on the last day of the wage period and must be paid as soon as practicable, no later than seven days after its end. For 3 October–2 November 2026, that latest date is 9 November; preserve an agreed earlier payment date.
Use Calculator without an account. Open the workspace to save defaults or a draft, then finalize when ready. Record actual payment separately; issuing a statement does not record payment.
Good questions deserve clear answers.
Does a February cycle need a smaller monthly salary?
A complete saved recurring cycle uses the entered monthly salary, including the day-31 rollover shown here. A genuinely different period needs an explicit base amount.
Is the agreed extra-work rate a statutory daily wage?
No. It is the rate entered for this calculation. Statutory average-wage references use their own historical window and exclusion rules.
Must I record every day before saving payroll?
No. Quick payroll uses entered counts and amounts. Detailed dated records and supporting notes are optional.
